How a robot co-host actually works

Rocco is a Unitree G1 humanoid robot, about 1.3 metres tall, controlled by a trained operator who attends every booking. He is not an autonomous AI host. The operator voices or triggers lines that you have agreed in advance and controls his movement on stage, following the cues in your run sheet.

Your human MC remains in charge of the room. They welcome guests, keep time, react to the unexpected and read long lists of names or sponsors. Rocco adds short, high-impact moments: an entrance, a welcome, a handover line or a presenter pose. The result feels like a double act, with each host doing what they do best.

Writing the script for a robot MC

  • Keep lines short. One or two sentences per cue land better than a speech. Leave the detail to your MC.
  • Write a handback for every line. Your MC should always know the phrase that returns the stage to them.
  • Supply pronunciations. Send phonetic spellings for company, award and people names well before the event.
  • Mark each cue in the run sheet. Note the music, lighting or screen change that tells the operator when to start.
  • Plan a fallback. If a segment runs long or a cue moves, your MC simply continues and Rocco joins at the next agreed point.
  • Rehearse where you can. A short walk-through with the MC and stage manager makes timing far smoother on the night.

An illustrative awards-night running order

This example shows how a robot co-host can be woven into a program. It is a planning illustration only; your timings and segments are confirmed during booking.

  1. Guests arrive. Rocco greets and poses for photos in the foyer during pre-dinner drinks.
  2. Your MC welcomes the room and introduces their co-host.
  3. Rocco walks on to a music cue, delivers an agreed welcome line and hands back to the MC.
  4. Entrée and the first block of speeches run without the robot on stage.
  5. Rocco joins selected award categories, announcing a category or presenting with the winner.
  6. The final award or a closing line from Rocco leads into photos and the dance floor.

Awards nights, ceremonies and corporate milestones

At the NSW Local Government Excellence Awards at Royal Randwick, Digital Armour presented Rocco as DAX, their own named robot persona. DAX danced, posed for photos and high-fived guests, giving a sponsor a presence on the night that went beyond a logo. At Pengana Capital Group's ASX listing bell ceremony, Rocco joined the team for a formal corporate milestone and its photographs.

The same approach suits gala dinners, staff awards, graduation-style ceremonies and launch nights. See robot hire for ceremonies and corporate events for more ideas.

Plan your robot co-host segments

  • Send the event date, venue, guest numbers and run sheet, marking the segments where you want Rocco on stage.
  • Introduce us to your MC and stage manager so lines, cues and handbacks can be agreed. Supply names and pronunciations early.
  • Confirm stage access (ramp, lift or level entry), a clear operating area, loading times and a venue contact.

Rocco is a Unitree G1 humanoid robot supplied with a trained operator. We are based in Sydney, with appearances including Channel 10 and FraudX in Melbourne. Interstate dates, travel and venue suitability are confirmed during planning.

Before you book

Can Rocco replace our human MC?

No, and we recommend against trying. Rocco works best as a co-host beside your MC, who keeps the program moving, handles changes and reads the full list of names. Rocco delivers short, agreed lines and stage moments that the room remembers.

Who writes Rocco's lines?

You supply or approve the content, and we help shape it into short lines the operator can deliver on cue. Send names, pronunciations, award categories and any in-jokes early. The final script and cue points are confirmed before the event.

Can Rocco hand trophies to winners?

Share the trophy or certificate size and weight, and how winners will move across the stage. The team confirms what is practical for a handover or presentation pose. A staff member can stand by with the trophies so the moment stays smooth.
