ROBOTICS
INCURSIONS
FOR SCHOOLS

Bring a real humanoid robot to your school. Rocco's STEM incursion combines a live demonstration, a plain-English look at how humanoid robots work and a student Q&A, led by a trained operator.

School Assemblies

A whole-school or stage-level demonstration that gets every student talking about robotics.

STEM Days & Science Week

A headline session for National Science Week, STEM days or a technology focus week.

Year-Group Sessions

Smaller sessions with more time for questions, suited to digital technologies and science classes.

Open Days & Formals

Greetings and photos that showcase your school's interest in technology and innovation.

What students see and learn

Rocco is a Unitree G1 humanoid robot, about 1.3 metres tall: roughly the height of a primary school student. Seeing one up close turns robotics from something on a screen into a machine students can watch balance, walk and wave in front of them.

  • Balance: why standing on two legs is hard for a robot, and how it makes constant small corrections to stay upright.
  • Sensors: how a humanoid robot gathers information about its surroundings, including depth-sensing cameras and LiDAR.
  • Motors and joints: how electric motors at each joint work together, much like muscles, to create movement.
  • Remote operation: the difference between a robot that is piloted by a person and one that acts on its own, and why Rocco has a human operator.
  • Power: batteries, charging and why real robots need rest breaks too.
  • Careers: the jobs behind a robot like Rocco, from engineering and mechatronics to software, AI and design.

A sample incursion format

Every school is different, so the format is agreed with your teachers. This outline is an illustration rather than a fixed program.

  1. Walk-on and welcome: Rocco enters and greets students with a message agreed with the school.
  2. Live demonstration: walking, gestures and movement within a clear demonstration zone.
  3. How it works: the operator explains sensors, balance, motors and remote control in age-appropriate language.
  4. Student Q&A: students ask about the robot, AI and the future of technology.
  5. Careers and close: a short look at robotics and AI pathways, with photos if your school's consent arrangements allow.

Primary and secondary schools

Primary students respond to the wonder of meeting a real humanoid robot. Simple comparisons work well: sensors are like senses, motors are like muscles, and the operator is like the robot's pilot. The Q&A is often the highlight.

Secondary students can go further into control systems, feedback loops, the difference between teleoperation and autonomy, and the ethics of AI and robots in society. Tell us whether the session supports a digital technologies, science or careers unit so the emphasis suits your class.

Safety and child protection

  • Rocco is operator-supervised for the entire session and never left running unattended.
  • A clear interaction zone is set up, and students approach only when the operator invites them.
  • Teachers remain responsible for student supervision and behaviour throughout the incursion.
  • Ask us for operator WWCC details and our risk assessment when booking, so your school's approval process can be completed.
  • Confirm your school's photography and consent requirements before any photos are taken.

Our venue checklist covers floor surfaces, access and space, which apply to school halls as much as event venues.

Robotics incursion cost

Robot hire typically ranges from $1,000 to $5,000+ depending on duration, event type, location and customisation. Most standard 2–3 hour bookings fall in the $1,000+ range. Let us know how many sessions you would like on the day and any budget limits when you enquire. See the robot hire cost guide for more detail.

Plan your school robotics incursion

  • Send your school name, suburb, preferred dates, year levels and approximate student numbers for each session.
  • Describe the space: hall, library or classroom, the floor surface, and access from the car park or loading area. Nominate a teacher contact for the day.
  • Share the topic or unit the incursion supports, and request operator WWCC details and our risk assessment for your approval process.

Rocco is a Unitree G1 humanoid robot supplied with a trained operator. We are based in Sydney, with appearances including Channel 10 and FraudX in Melbourne. Interstate dates, travel and venue suitability are confirmed during planning.

Before you book

Is the robotics incursion aligned to the curriculum?

Tell us the year level and what your students are studying, and we can discuss emphasising ideas such as sensors, forces, digital technologies and careers. Teachers decide how the session fits their program.

What safety and child protection arrangements are in place?

Rocco is operator-supervised at all times and works within a clear interaction zone. Students approach only when invited, and teachers keep responsibility for student supervision. Ask us for operator WWCC details and our risk assessment when booking.

How many students can attend a robot incursion?

It depends on the space and format. An assembly suits a large group watching a demonstration, while classroom or year-group sessions allow more questions. Send your numbers and venue, and we will suggest a session plan.
